Summary

Press Blurb

Their press blurb, taken from a 2013 application to perform at The Hideout Theatre:

Whalehouse is a motorcycleless gang with a strict code: 1) Do improv. 2) Turn your best scenes into live sketches. 3) Turn live sketches into video sketches. 4) No unauthorized stabbings. 5) Maybe no stabbings at all if we can help it.

"What's Your Deal?"

Their answer to the "What's Your Deal?" question on a 2013 application to perform at The Hideout Theatre:

RE: our actual improv shows ---Our shows start out with either an introductory video sketch or a live sketch. When we take stage, we get a suggestion that will inform our first group scene's location. We place that in our fictional town of Whalehouse. From there, we improvise scenes that take us all across the homes and businesses of our town.

Whalehouse is experimentally and annoyingly following a literal interpretation of the Upright Citizens Brigade "model". Meaning, we read an article where the UCB Four mentioned that their coach/director/mentor, Del Close, wanted them to perform written sketch that was directly informed by their improv scenes, and then turn that into recorded sketch. Whalehouse is doing just that. (For fun, we like to start with a quick, projected video sketch to warm-up the crowd)

We perform "Close-quarters" improv shows that all take place in one town - a coastal town called Whalehouse.

After each show we write down and discuss our favorite scenes of the night. We turn those into live sketches to be performed the next month. From there, we take our best live sketches and turn them into video sketches for online consumption.
