List of Austin Improv Theaters
There are three theaters in Austin, Texas that produce improv shows:
The Institution Theater, run by Tom Booker, began teaching classes in 2008 and moved into a physical space in 2011. The theater closed in 2020, but continued to offer classes until Booker moved to Nashville later that year.
The Comedy Workshop is the earliest known home to improv in Austin -- they taught weekly improv workshops and hosted the first known Austin improv shows in the early 1980s.
The Lair was an improv theater in Round Rock that opened and closed in 2010.
The New Movement Theater began at 1819 Rosewood Ave, then moved to 616 Lavaca St. In February 2018, TNM's owners transferred the space to the new Fallout Theater.
