Shawn Utterback started his improv journey in 1994 with Comedy Sportz in San Jose, CA. Shortly after he relocated to Richmond, VA where he directed Take 5 Comedy Troupe. In 1996 he became a founding member of Comedy Sportz Richmond. Shawn took a hiatus while attending graduate school at VCU to be followed by performances with various improv groups such as Dysfunction Junction, Louisville Improvisors, Project Improv and The Nannie Tharpe Experience. He moved to Austin in 2009 and quickly rejoined his Comedy Sportz family. Currently residing in Austin, Shawn is the co-founder of Play Storming productions. [www.play-storming.com ] He recently performed with PIP Elves for Hire at the Institution. He is the current producer of Comedy Spartans (an offshoot of ComedySportz) and has produced two well attended and reviewed benefit shows for a Austin food pantry called "Laugh Away Hunger". He is also a Teaching Artist at the Georgetown Palace Theatre and runs a bi-monthly improv jam at Gateway Community Church.
