Katie started taking improv classes with Shana Merlin at The State Theater in 2007, with classmates Courtney Hopkin and Albert Im.

A post from her about the first improv show she ever saw:

I first saw ComedySportz at Northcross Mall in about 1994. Then I used to watch Only 90% Effective, a UT troupe, in 1995/96 a lot. Never made it to a Monks' Night Out show, though I kept meaning to, and then didn't see improv again until 2007? It might have been Upright Citizens Brigade touring co. at the Texas Union Theater. Snackers had just formed.
