Showdown – Third Episode: "Texas, My Texas" refers to the third performance of Showdown, which was improvised on 4/1/11.

Episode Summary

  • Delilah is unimpressed by the dilapidated headquarters that Hank has secured for the Houston campaign. Texas Ranger Caleb Forsythe makes his introduction as the head of security for the campaign speeches.
  • Celia threatens to leave George over his inability to give her a child.
  • Miss Jessie buys a gun from Tobias because she’s worried the town will become too dangerous from the impending politicking and elections.
  • Elizabeth agrees to work for Clement in the same position her dead husband had as long as Clement makes sure the trial will go in Zeke’s favor. He hints that judge Thomas Clancy is an old acquaintance who’s not above taking bribes.
  • Sam Johnson arrives in town from San Antonio and sets up his saloon: The Black Cat.
  • Fancy admits to Clarinda that she and Clement have been poisoning her tea to cause her to lose her child, despite Clement’s promise otherwise. She plots to help Clarinda keep the pregnancy secret from Clement.
  • Knowing she can’t turn to her husband, George, for a child, Celia turns to an old suitor of hers, Tobias. The town gunsmith urges Celia to leave her husband George and start a family with him.
  • Judge Thomas Clancy arrives in town after gunning down two men who where stealing his saddle bags.
  • The saucy Marquesa meets Caleb Forsythe and initially introduces herself as the head of the Burnet campaign. Soon she reveals to the Ranger that her name is Adelaide and her real goal is to make sure the Burnet campaign fails.
  • George offers Clement a huge sum of gold to buy Clarinda’s child in order to keep Celia.
  • Sam Johnson visits Sheriff Robert Solomon to find out how much he will have to bribe him with. The Sheriff turns him brusquely away.
  • Clement unveils himself to Delilah as part of the plot to assassinate Sam Houston during his visit. He provides her with a gun, as she is the one destined to pull the trigger.
  • Sam Johnson tries to convince Fancy to come over to his saloon as the new madame but meets painful resistance.
  • Clement and Thomas Clancy renew their friendship but the judge tells Clement that he can’t rig Zeke Preston’s trial with the election coming up and a plum political position potentially in his future.
  • In a fit of jealousy Celia beats the pregnant Clarinda, who loses a lot of blood. Sheriff Solomon intervenes.
  • Clarinda confesses to murdering of Doc Parish. She begs the Sheriff to not hang her until after her child is born.
  • Elizabeth tells Zeke about her plan to free him and they are hopeful to be reunited.
  • The Black Cat opens to a packed crowd.
  • Caleb chides his secret business partner Sam for coming to Showdown too soon. Sam talks about his desire to see his competitor Clement humbled and promises not to do anything without consulting Caleb.
  • Celia almost confesses her affair with Tobias to George, but instead they renew their faith in each other.
