Episode Summary

  • Saloon owner Clement Merseault and his madame Fancy discuss the troublesome affair of whore Clarinda trying to hide her pregnancy. Clement decides to send Clarinda to Jonathan Peterson, the town’s dentist and partner in Clement’s shadier dealings, to get a draught in order to lose the child.
  • At Celia and George’s restaurant, the meat is as rancid as the onerous couple, who don’t even want Hank, who just got a tooth pulled at Doc Peterson’s clinic, in their establishment with his swelled face.
  • Clarinda seeks help from Doc Parish, the town’s priest and doctor instead. He promises to help her keep the baby and hides her away.
  • Sheriff Robert Solomon reunites with good friend Zeke Preston, who had to leave town for a few weeks after shooting a man named Lawson in a less than clear incident. The Sheriff urges Zeke not to come back to town.
  • Elisabeth Peterson meets in secret with Zeke and tells him about her abusive husband Jonathan. She promises him her love in return for her husband’s death.
  • On his way into town, Zeke gets accosted by some of the sheriff’s ranch hands, but persuades them to let him confront Jonathan.
  • Doc Peterson returns home to his wife Elisabeth and the evening quickly turns sour as the two get into an argument and the doctor leaves for the Jewel Saloon.
  • Doc Parish is visited by Clement, who tortures the priest and tries to force him to give up the whereabouts of Clarinda.
  • Hank professes that he “got bitten by the political bug” and is working for the Houston campaign. His enthusiasm is met with reserve by Clement’s right hand man, Bertram.
  • Zeke shoots Jonathan in front of witnesses and waits in the restaurant for the Sheriff to arrest him.
  • The episode ends with a mutilated Doc Parish warning Clarinda about Clement’s plans to find and harm her.
