The Violet Underbelly was a mainstage show at The Hideout Theatre which presented narrative longform inspired by film noir.

Summary

The director deliberately steered the show away from the traditional, wackier signifiers of film noir -- the gumshoes, the voiceover, and the heightened language that often serves to poke fun at the genre -- and aimed for a grittier tone that was truer to the actual source material.

After its main run, the show performed one mash-up night with False Matters (called "Violet Matters"), but otherwise hasn't been done since.
