"What's Your Deal?"
Their answer to the "What's Your Deal?" question on a 2015 application to perform at The Hideout Theatre:
We get a suggestion from the audience about a place where a lot of strangers might be. Then we do a longer opening scene, playing multiple characters in a complex environment. We try to hit recognizable beats. The protagonist enters at any point, early or late in the scene, and experiences this environment, and chooses to interact with one or more of these characters. We then follow what happens from that choice--sometimes it's something huge, sometimes it's silly, sometimes it's tragic, sometimes it's lame. After we've explored it, we reset back to the original scene, and recreate it, trying to hit the same beats. Protagonist makes a different choices this time, and we explore that alternate universe. If anything happened in the first story that would happen regardless (protagonist gets a phone call, or something happens in the wider world), we make sure it happens again, with probably different results and reactions. And repeat a third time with yet another choice. We try to make sure the stories have high variety but also "feel right." We are all big fans of Wes Anderson's movies and try to create vivid worlds with memorable characters and a hint of magical realism.
