Brent Unger is an improv performer.

History

Brent dabbled in theater in high school and college performing in various stage productions including Oklahoma and You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. His focus in college was vocal and instrumental music (French Horn) and he worked as a band director, private instructor, drum & bugle corps director and instructor, brass arranger, marching band clinician, drill designer and adjudicator for almost 20 years.

While working as an extra on the Friday Night Lights television series, Brent befriended Michael Ferstenfeld who introduced him to the robust improv scene in Austin. Brent started classes in May 2011 with Shana Merlin and Ted Rutherford at Salvage Vanguard Theater. He later transferred and finished classes at The Hideout Theatre with instructors Andy Crouch, Roy Janik, Lisa Jackson and Josh Gill.

Brent has been an occasional performer in recurring shows such as Fancy Pants, The Derby and Maestro. He has been a member of troupes Apocalypse, Epic and Joy. He’s the founding director of Taxi Cab Impressions, a predominantly short-form Armando-style troupe with a rotating cast pool. Brent shares his own experiences as a taxi driver and audience members share their own experiences in taxis and those stories are used as inspiration for improvised scenes.
